SLINGER – The Fond du Lac wrestling team will have two competitors at next weekend’s WIAA Division 1 individual state wrestling meet.
Donte Johnson (285 pounds) won a Division 1 sectional title on Saturday afternoon at Slinger to earn his spot in Madison, while Colton Wasieleski (195) finished second to also clinch a berth.
Johnson defeated Hartford’s Quinn Meinerz by a 5-2 decision in the championship match to win the title. Earlier in the day, Johnson pinned Port Washington’s Cody Lewis and Beaver Dam’s Ricky Ruel to put himself in the first-place match.
Meanwhile, Wasieleski defeated Oshkosh North’s Ben Salzman by a 21-5 tech fall in the second-place match to clinch his trip to state. The Fond du Lac junior won his first two matches by pin, but fell in the championship match to West Bend West’s Joe Leonhardt.
The top two finishers in each weight class at Division 1 sectionals qualify for state.
Chase Krug (220) just missed out on state, finishing third, while Colin Athanasiou (152) was fourth. Logan Naker (138), Austin Baatz (170) and Adam Hopper (182) each lost their first match.
Fond du Lac finished seventh as a team with 61.5 points. Slinger was first with 171.5 points.
