2022 story: Junior Lucy Nielsen shot 89 at Washington County GC in Hartford to finish T-3 and lead four Fond du Lac golfers in the top 10 — junior Tori Braun and senior Sidney Doyle finished T-6 (91) and junior Lauren Grass T-9 (97) — as the Cardinals shot 368 and won the Hartford regional by seven strokes over Slinger. Sheboygan North/South (391) and Hartford (395) earned the other two sectional berths ahead of West Bend West/East (402). It took a score of 107 or better to reach the sectional individually.
2023 skinny: Plymouth wraps up its third season fielding a high school girls golf team by moving from Division 2 to Division 1 and hosting a regional for the first time at a sneaky tough Quit-Qui-Oc GC. It will pit a Fond du Lac team led by senior Lucy Nielsen against a Hartford team led by freshman Rita Kuepper in the battle for the regional team title. Fond du Lac finished second to Kaukauna at last week’s Fox Valley Association Championship behind Nielsen (T-6) and fellow senior Tori Braun (ninth). Hartford finished second to Whitefish Bay at last week’s North Shore Conference Championship with Kuepper earning medalist honors. But that was enough for the Orioles to take the overall title for the first time since joining the North Shore, their first conference title since 2015 and sixth overall. Sheboygan North/South and Slinger should have no trouble punching their tickets to the sectional as well. This regional marks the WIAA tournament debut for Beaver Dam/Wayland Academy’s McKenna Nelson, a freshman who this summer became the youngest golfer to win the Wisconsin Women’s State Match Play Championship.
