For a second consecutive season, University of Minnesota Duluth redshirt quarterback Kyle Walljasper has been nominated for the 2024 Harlon Hill Trophy.
One of 43 players nationwide nominated and one of 11 from Super Region 4 for the Division II Football Player of the Year, Walljasper is coming off a season in which the Fond du Lac, Wis. native was named a 2024 All-NSIC First Team selection. Walljasper had the best passing season of his career, averaging 200.9 yards in the air a game and tossing 22 TDs – which tied his career high set last season. With 806 yards on the ground, Walljasper also used his legs to run in eight touchdowns, and averaged 80.6 rushing yards a game.
The Nov. 5 D2Football.com’s Offensive Player of the Week and Nov. 4 NSIC Offensive Player of the Week, Walljasper is now fifth all-time for TDs (90), fifth all-time total offense yards (6,977) and sixth all-time for career passing yards. With 4,361 career rushing yards, Walljasper is also fifth all-time in passing TDs (54) and sixth all-time rushing TDs (36).
The group of 43 candidates includes 16 quarterbacks, nine running backs, six wide receivers, four defensive linemen, three defensive backs, two linebackers, a fullback, a return specialist and a kicker. The list features 24 seniors, 17 juniors and two sophomores.
The winner of the 2024 award will be announced on Friday, December 20.
The Hill Trophy is named for the late Harlon Hill – the former University of North Alabama standout – who excelled with the Lions from 1950-53 before going on to fame in the National Football League with the Chicago Bears.

Bulldog Football Uses Miscues to Steamroll No. 18 Mavericks 30-16 on Senior Day
Redshirt junior QB Kyle Walljasper connected with redshirt freshman wide receiver Ryder Patterson for a 35-yard touchdown pass down the left sideline. Walljasper rolled out to the left and found a streaking Patterson behind the Maverick defense all alone for a walk in touchdown.
Kyle Walljasper faked the scrum up the middle and rolled to the his right and found redshirt freshman running back Alex Riley who leaked out to the corner of the end zone for a seven-yard touchdown.
Kyle Walljasper finished the day 16-for-26 with 177 yards and three passing touchdowns and added 77 yards rushing. Johnson registered 60 yards rushing on nine carries with a score as well. Patterson was the leading receiver, and he ended the day hauling in all five of his targets for 57 yards and the Bulldogs’ second touchdown.

Bulldogs Win Third Straight Game with 35-7 Defeat of Concordia St. Paul
The connection between quarterback Kyle Walljasper and DaShaun Ames was in full view Saturday, and the result was a three touchdown haul, that along with a stingy defense, allowed the University of Minnesota Duluth football team to defeat Concordia University, St. Paul 35-7 at Sea Foam Stadium in St. Paul, Minn.
After a scoreless first quarter, the Bulldogs broke through in a big way with two touchdowns in the final four minutes of the first half. The first was a 55-yard TD pass from Walljasper to Ames at 3:53, followed by a Curtis Cox extra point kick that gave UMD the game’s first lead of 7-0. Then, with just 23 seconds left in the quarter, Walljasper hit Ames again on another 11-yard TD route to give the Bulldogs a 14-0 advantage at the half.
Walljasper and Ames weren’t done, however. Jarrett Bennett’s interception and 31-yard return at the 12:11 mark set the Bulldogs up well, and UMD scored just five plays later when Walljasper found Ames wide open for the 7-yard TD to push UMD ahead 21-0.
Kyle Walljasper led the Bulldog passing attack with 219 yards through the air, tossed three touchdowns, and added 99 yards on the ground. The redshirt QB completed 76.9% of his passes on the day, going 20-for-26 while averaging 8.4 yards per attempt.
Saturday was the fourth time this season Kyle Walljasper has thrown for 200 or more yards … In fact, Walljasper is averaging 201 yards a game this season

11/4/2024 Kyle Walljasper Named NSIC Offensive Player of the Week
After a monster weekend offensively, University of Minnesota Duluth football quarterback Kyle Walljasper was named the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Offensive Player of the Week Monday.
The redshirt quarterback led the entire conference in total offense (420 yards), rushing yards (236 yards) and points scored (30), leading the Bulldogs over Winona State University on Saturday 42-38 in Winona, Minn. Walljasper had five rushing touchdowns and 236 yards on the ground on 26 carries for a 9.1 yards per carry average. The Fond du Lac, Wis. native also threw for 184 yards and one one passing touchdowns, including a 74 yard TD connection with Sam Pitz on the opening drive of the game.
In all, Walljasper’s performance — a career high in both total rushing yards and rushing TDs — also tied the biggest rushing game by any player in the history of the UMD program. Walljasper tied the program rushing record yard mark set by Erik Conner against Bemidji State University on Oct. 21, 2000, and ran for the second most TDs — he is now one of four Bulldog players ever to run for five or more touchdowns in a game.

Led by the 30 points and 420 total offensive yards from quarterback Kyle Walljasper, the University of Minnesota Duluth football team defeated Winona State University 42-38 at Altra Federal Credit Union Stadium in Winona, Minn. Saturday afternoon.
The game featured a number of season best performances from the Bulldogs, including 322 team rushing yards, the most rushing TDs (Walljasper, with five), most individual rushing yards in a game (Walljasper 236), and both the longest rush (Walljasper, 70 yards), and longest reception (Sam Pitz, 74 yds) of the season.
Kyle Walljasper’s monster day had a career high effort too – his rushing mark of 236 yards and his five rushing TDs were both career bests, and he registered 9.1 yards a carry on the afternoon

Down two scores with just over one minute in the half, the Bulldogs drove 73 yards down field and found themselves on the board with a 17-yard passing touchdown from Kyle Walljasper to DaShaun Ames, their seventh connection of the season to cut NSU’s lead down the middle before half.

The Bulldogs came out into the second half fired up, and recorded back to back 20+ yard receptions from Kyle Walljasper to Ben Fritsch and Pitz. The 75-yard drive concluded with Kyle Walljasper taking it himself and finding the pylon for another Bulldog touchdown, putting UMD back in the lead 17-14 early into the third quarter.
The Bulldogs refused to back down, going on to score on the very first play of their next drive with a 53-yard connection through the air from Kyle Walljasper to Ames to put UMD back in the lead 24-21.
The offense again was led by Kyle Walljasper went 23-for-35 for 231 yards through the air, with one touchdown and no interceptions. The quarterback also added 41 yards and one touchdown on the ground

Kyle Walljasper would find an open Jimmy Durocher for a quick 2 yard receiving touchdown with four seconds left in the first quarter.
Another punt set up the Bulldogs at the UMary 48-yard line, which was capped off with a 24-yard rushing touchdown from Kyle Walljasper to put UMD up 14-0 at the 6:48 mark before the half.
