The ninth-seeded Cardinals came up just short against No. 8 seed Kimberly in Friday night’s WIAA Division 1 regional semifinal matchup.
Fondy kept it close but got into foul trouble, sending the Papermakers to the charity stripe 28 times, while two players fouled out.
Ally Gietzel led the Cardinals with 16 points, while Megan Dille added 14. Aleah Wendels chipped in seven. Fondy was nearly perfect from the free-throw line, sinking 13 of 14.

In Division 1, Fond du Lac drew the No. 9 seed in its 18-team sectional and will play at No. 8 Kimberly in a regional semifinal on Feb. 26. The Cardinals have fallen to the Papermakers both times this season.
The winner of the game will likely face top-seeded Mukwonago, while the other top seeds in the sectional are No. 2 Bay Port, No. 3 Germantown and No. 4 Kettle Moraine.
