2015 Grad Peter Andrew at Fond du Lac High School

A four-time state qualifier in throwing events for Fond du Lac High School … finished seventh in shot put and 13th in discus at the state meet as a senior … that came one year after taking sixth in shot put as a junior … a standout football player for the Cardinals, being named first-team all state as a senior … a Joe Thomas Award finalist his final year … also competed in basketball three years … was named a Wendy’s High School Heisman state finalist … also once earned the Channel 5 News scholar athlete of the week.

Peter Andrew of the UW-Milwaukee track & field team has been named a member of the 2019 Google Cloud Academic All-American Division I Team for track and field, announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Thursday afternoon. After two years of being named to the academic all-district squad, Andrew broke through as a senior to be recognized on one of the three 15-member national teams – the highest academic honor possible in the NCAA.

Andrew was named to the Second Team Academic All-American squad after yet another dominating season. He capped his four-year Panther career at the NCAA West Regionals in Sacramento, Calif., just last month, where he became the first Milwaukee thrower to compete in back-to-back regional meets in program history. He graduates as one of the most decorated throwers in MKE history – winning four consecutive Horizon League Championships in shot put.

At his final conference championship meet, he was named the Horizon League Outstanding Field Performer after he won the league title in shot put, brought home the bronze medal in hammer throw and came in fourth in discus for a total of 21 total points. That helped Milwaukee finish runner-up as a team – the program’s 40th team trophy from the last 46 conference meets.

He finishes with both the indoor and outdoor school records in shot put. He also is ranked seventh all-time in weight throw, seventh in hammer throw and eighth in discus.

The Fond du Lac native graduated with a 3.97 grade-point average and posted a perfect 4.00 GPA in seven of his eight total semesters. He has been named to the Horizon League All-Academic Team in five of his six seasons eligible and to the conference’s academic honor roll all six semesters he has been eligible.

2018-19 Season

2019 Outdoor: Finished his outstanding four-year Panther career at the NCAA West Regionals, finishing 42nd in shot put with a toss of 17.50m (57-5) … became the first Panther thrower in program history to qualify for back-to-back regional berths … was able to turn it on when it mattered most, having a huge performance at the conference meet, earning the Horizon League Outstanding Field Performer of the Meet … won his fourth consecutive Horizon League Title in shot put, posting a season-best mark on his final throw of 18.08m (59-4) … also finished third in hammer throw and fourth in discus at the league meet … hammer throw mark of 53.21m (174-7) at the conference meet leaves him ranked seventh in MKE history … started the outdoor season by being named Horizon League Field Athlete of the Week April 2 for the 10th time in his career after an opening shot put mark of 17.17m (56-4) down in Missouri … won shot put with a toss of 17.49m (57-4 3/4) at the Illinois Twilight April 13 … had a big day at Marquette April 24, taking first in shot put, third in hammer throw and fourth in discus with a season-best throw of 48.27m (158-4) … in all, finished in the top-10 a total of 15 times on the season, including taking first four times.

2019 Indoor: Carried over his success from his junior year into a dominating start to his senior season … successfully defended his indoor crown and claimed his third-straight Horizon League Championship in shot put, breaking his own school record with a winning toss of 17.86m (58-7 1/4) … also came in third in weight throw with a career-best mark of 17.28m (56-8 1/2), now ranking him seventh in program history … started the season on fire right out of the gates, being named the Horizon League Field Athlete of the Week Jan. 15 after taking first in shot put, second in discus and third in weight throw at the Badger Icebreaker … one week later, again topped the shot put field at the home Tierney Classic … broke his own school shot put record for the first time on the year with a toss of 17.42m (57-2) at Illinois Jan. 26 … one week later, inched ahead with a new record of 17.43m (57-2 1/4) at Notre Dame’s storied Meyo Invite to again claim league athlete-of-the-week honors Feb. 5 … topped the shot put field yet again both days of the GVSU Big Meet, again breaking his own school record Feb. 9 with a new mark of 17.46m (57-3 1/2) … capped the regular season with a win in shot put and a runner-up finish in weight throw at the Panther Tune-Up Feb. 16 … in all, broke his own school record in shot put four times and won the event six of the eight times on the year, finishing runner-up the other two times.

2017-18 Season

2018 Outdoor: Qualified for the NCAA West Regional in shot put, finishing 36th overall with a toss of 17.16m (56-3 3/4) … made it a clean sweep of the Horizon League shot put titles with a record-breaking performance – turning four throws of over 18 meters and claiming the conference championship with a school-record toss of 18.52m (60-9 1/4) – a full five feet farther than his previous best … also earned a spot on the podium in hammer throw by taking seventh and placing 10th in discus at the Horizon League Championships … opened the season taking seventh in both shot put and discus at the Bill Cornell Spring Classic Mar. 24 … one week later, turned in a shot put toss of 16.77m (55-0 1/4) for third at the Big Blue Classic … was named Horizon League Athlete of the Week April 10 after taking fourth in hammer with a season-best mark of 50.81m (166-8), sixth in discus at 45.58m (149-6) and sixth in shot put at 16.55m (54-3 3/4) at the Gibson Invite … followed that up by winning shot put and fourth in hammer at the Benedictine Relays April 13 … was again named league athlete of the week after again winning shot put with a big toss of 17.00m (55-9 1/4), taking third in discus and sixth in hammer at DePaul April 21 … won his third-straight shot put event at the Drake Alternative April 28 … was named to the Horizon League All-Academic Team … named Google Cloud CoSIDA First-Team Academic All-District … also earned USTFCCCA All-Academic honors following the outstanding season … named to the Horizon League Spring Academic Honor Roll.

2018 Indoor: Had a breakthrough start to his junior season, winning his first league title, breaking the school shot put record and being named Horizon League Athlete of the Week three times … brought home a league title in shot put with a school-record mark of 17.35m (56-11 1/4) in his final approach … also was a part of Milwaukee’s dominance in weight throw at the league meet, taking fifth with a PR mark of 16.58m (54-4 3/4) … that throw now ranks him eighth in program history … started the season winning shot put and taking fourth in weight throw at the Karl Schlender Invite Jan. 13 … followed that up by earning his first league athlete of the week award after winning shot put and taking seventh in weight throw at the home Tierney Classic Jan. 20 … moved up in the school record book by taking fourth in shot put at Notre Dame at 17.05m (55-11 1/4) for fourth overall at the Meyo Invite to again earn league athlete of the week honors Feb. 2 … repeated as league thrower of the week after breaking the school record for the first time on the year with a winning throw of 17.19m (56-4 3/4) at the GVSU Big Meet Feb. 10 … also won shot put and placed fifth in weight throw at the Panther Tune-Up Feb. 17 … named to the Horizon-League All-Academic Team and the Horizon League Fall Academic Honor Roll. 

2016-17 Season

2017 Outdoor: Continued solid sophomore campaign by scoring in all three throwing events at the Horizon League Championships, taking second in shot put, fourth in discus and eighth in hammer throw … was consistently ranked in the region in both shot put and discus all season … hammer throw mark of 48.25m (158-4) at league meet was a PR by nearly four meters and now ranks 10th all-time in Panther history … started the outdoor season winning shot put and taking second in discus at the Edmonds Invite Mar. 25 … one week later, won the discus competition at the Big Blue Classic … turned in a big performance at Marquette, winning shot put with a new PR and taking third in discus and fifth in hammer throw April 7 … took things to the next level one week later by winning shot put and taking third in discus at the Benedictine Invite, with a big shot put PR of 16.62 that now ranks fifth in UWM history … was named league athlete of the week April 28 after posted another PR, this time in discus, with a throw of 50.75m (166-6) to take first at the Pacesetter Invite … also came in second in shot put and fourth in hammer throw at Indiana State … placed runner-up in discus at the Drake Alternative April 29 … in all, between indoor and outdoor, posted 16 top-three finishes on the season, including winning seven events … named to the Horizon-League All-Academic Team.

2017 Indoor: Came in fourth in shot put and 12th in weight throw at the Horizon League Championships … started the year taking second in shot put and fifth in weight throw at Whitewater Jan. 14 … one week later, again finished runner-up in shot put at the Tierney Classic … topped the field in shot put and came in seventh in weight throw at the Parkside Classic Feb. 4 … again came in second in shot put at the GVSU Big Meet Feb. 11 … was named Horizon League Athlete of the Week Feb. 21 after winning the shot put and taking fourth in weight throw at the Panther Tune-Up … shot put mark of 16.52m (54-2 1/2) at home meet now ranks third in school history  … named to the Horizon League Fall Academic Honor Roll.

2015-16 Season

2016 Outdoor: Scored and finished eighth in shot put and ninth in discus at the Horizon League Championships … started the outdoor season second in shot put, seventh in discus and 11th in hammer throw at the Billiken Kickoff Mar. 19 … one week later, was third in shot put and 11th in discus at the Edmonds Invite … took sixth in discus and eighth in shot put at the Warrior Invite April 16 … one week later, was fifth in discus, seventh in shot put and 10th in hammer at the St. Norbert Invite.

2016 Indoor: Finished seventh in shot put and 13th in weight throw as a freshman at the Horizon League Championships … made his collegiate debut Jan. 16 at the Karl Schlender Invite, taking third in shot put and ninth in weight throw … opening shot put mark of 15.83m (51-11 1/4) ranks eighth in UWM history … one week later, was third in shot put and sixth in weight throw at the home Tierney Quad … won the shot put competition and was runner-up in weight throw at the Parkside Green & White Jan. 30 … tied shot put PR for a second-place finish at the Parkside Classic one week later … again won shot put at the Panther Tune-Up Feb. 19.
