BURNSVILLE, Minn. – The Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference released the 2023-24 Women’s Basketball All-Conference Teams. Senior Ally Gietzel and Junior Lindsey Becher were honored with All-NSIC First Team selections, as voted on by NSIC head coaches. 

Ally scored her 1,000th career point this season on Jan. 10 against St. Cloud State. The senior guard finished fifth in the NSIC in scoring averaging 15.9 points, 10th in rebounding averaging 6.7 rebounds and second in minutes averaging 35.9 minutes per game. She was named NSIC Player of the Week during week four after breaking the school record for free throws made in a game with 21.

  • Two-time All-NSIC selection after earning second-team honors last season

  • Scored double digits in 18 games with two double-doubles

  • Tallied seven games with 20+ points

  • Posted a career-high 36 points against Augustana, tied for third-most in school history

  • Has the all-time best career minutes average in school history with 35.9 per game

2022-23: 

Second Team All-NSIC … CSC Academic All-District …  started in all 28 games for the Golden Bears at guard with 1005 total minutes played (35.9 AVG/G), which ranked third in the entire NSIC … finished 11th in scoring in the NSIC with 432 points (15.4 AVG/G) that included five double-doubles and seven games with over 20 points … led the conference in free-throws made with 121 and eight in free-throw percentage (82.3%) … added a career-high in scoring against Minot State (01/27) with 27 points that was replicated two games later against Sioux Falls (02/03) … recorded seven games with 10+ rebounds, including a career-high 17 rebounds against Upper Iowa (02/16) … tallied 214 rebounds, 68 assists, 31 steals and 22 blocks in her first season in the navy and gold.

The Golden Bears then hit back-to-back 3-pointers by senior Ally Gietzel and sophomore Lauren Feddema to extend their lead to nine points at the half.

Ally Gietzel picked up right where she left off after a Second Team All-NSIC season last year. She finished with 12 points and a team-high eight rebounds. She led the team in minutes played with 34.

 The Concordia-St Paul women’s basketball team (4-1, 1-0 NSIC) won on a last-second shot by Ally Gietzel 53-52 over Winona State (0-5, 0-1 NSIC). Ally scored 21 points with 13 coming from the free throw line. 

After drawing a foul, Ally would hit a pair of free throws to give the Golden Bears a 51-50 lead with 13.2 seconds left. 

Ally then took an iso jump shot from the left elbow which bounced around and in for the game-winner with 0.3 left on the clock. Ally Gietzel scored the last 10 points for CSP, six of which came at the free-throw line.

Ally Gietzel led all scorers in the game with 21 points, which was her second-highest total of the season. She also tied her season-high in rebounds with eight. She drew 12 total fouls in the game and went 13-18 from the free-throw line. This is the second straight game that Ally Gietzel has made a buzzer-beating shot to win. She hit one on Saturday night to give CSP a 74-72 win over Truman State.

 The Golden Bear women’s basketball team (5-1, 1-0 NSIC) finished out non-conference play with a 71-62 victory over Michigan Tech (4-3, 0-0 GLIAC) in their home opener at the Gangelhoff Center. 

The Huskies cut the lead to 65-62 with 1:47 left, but senior guard Ally Gietzel got an offensive rebound off her own miss and drew a foul. This was the start of six straight free throws for Gietzel and she made all six to end the game. Sophomore guard Leah Dengerud and Ally Gietzel both tied for the team-high 15 points.

Ally Gietzel finished with a team-high +13 on court differential in a team-high 37:12 played. She shot 9-10 from the charity stripe and finished with three assists.

Ally Gietzel breaks school record in free throws made in 83-73 victory over Vikings.  Senior guard tallies career-high 36 points to remain unbeaten in conference play.

The Concordia-St. Paul women’s basketball team defeated Augustana 83-73 after senior guard Ally Gietzel scored a career-high 36 points with a school-record 21 straight free throws after only missing her first attempt of the day. 

Ally Gietzel broke the record held by Katie LaViolette against Upper Iowa in 2008 with 17 free throws made in 18 attempts. The senior also tied for the third-highest points in a game in Concordia-St. Paul history. The most points in a game in Golden Bear history is by Jolene Bammert during the 1984-85 season.

“Ally is just so confident at the end of the game for us,” said head coach Amanda Johnson. “Just having a guard who is confident to get open and wants the ball in her hands to knock down free throws is such a breath of fresh air for the rest of the team.”

She continued her free throw streak of 21 from the Augustana game on Saturday, extending it to 26 before missing her 27th free throw. She finished the day 9-10 from the charity stripe.

This is the first time that Gietzel has won the award in her career and the second time a CSP women’s basketball player has been awarded NSIC Player of the Week this season. 26 free throws in a row this weekend.

– Averaged 21.3 points, 8.7 rebounds and 2.7 assists in Concordia-St. Paul’s three wins

– Scored a career-high 36 points against Augustana, shooting 46.7% from the field

– Tallied a season-high 11 rebounds against the Vikings

– Broke the CSP record in free throws made and free throws attempted going 21-of-22

– Made 26 straight free throws between the Augustana and Wayne State games

– Ended the weekend making 39-of-42 free throws (92.9%)

Concordia-St. Paul was led by Ally Gietzel with 27 points, seven rebounds and three steals. She went 11-18 from the field, which was the most field goals she’s made and attempted all season. Ally Gietzel’s 27 points fall short for Golden Bear women’s basketball against red-hot Marauders

Ally Gietzel scored 27 out of the 57 points for the Concordia-St. Paul women’s basketball team (10-4, 6-3 NSIC) but it came up just short in the end as CSP fell to UMary, 60-57 (10-6, 6-2 NSIC). Gietzel had two chances to tie the game in the final seconds, but had her first opportunity under the basket rim out and a 3-pointer blocked by Lexie Schneider the following possession at the buzzer. 

After a moving screen by Wilson with 45.3 left, the Golden Bears were forced to make a stop as the Marauders ran out the shot clock. Ally Gietzel blocked a shot by Mariah McKeever at the shot clock buzzer, but lost the ball out of bounds. After some debate, it was ruled the shot clock ran out before Ally had possession, which gave CSP the opportunity to take a shot to tie. 

The Golden Bears ended the first half with a 24-20 lead with Ally Gietzel scoring 17 of CSP’s 24 points. 

Ally Gietzel finished with 27 points playing all 40 minutes of the game shooting 11-20 from the field. She accounted for 22 of CSP’s first 32 points up until 4:54 in the third quarter. She finished with a team-high seven rebounds, a team-high three assists, and a team-high three steals. The 27 points tied her second-highest point total of the season when she scored the same amount of points against Southwest Minnesota State.

Ally Gietzel scores 25 in first win over St. Cloud State since 2019

 Ally Gietzel tallied her seventh game of the season with 20 or more points in a 25-point performance on a Wednesday night victory against St. Cloud State (7-6, 4-5 NSIC). Concordia-St. Paul (11-4, 7-3 NSIC) shot 48.1% from the field to get its first win against the Huskies since 2019 by a score of 64-55. 

Along with the 25 points, Ally Gietzel finished with a team-high seven rebounds, three assists and two steals. This was Gietzel’s second time posting back-to-back 20-point performances this season. She shot 9-14 (64.3%) from the field and 100% from the free throw line playing a team-high 39:35 in the contest.

One of the highlights of the night for Concordia was senior guard Ally Gietzel hitting a buzzer-beating 3-pointer at the end of the first quarter. CSP shot 3-6 from behind the arc in the opening quarter, but finished 6-20 in the game.

Ally Gietzel finished the game one rebound short of a double-double with 17 points and nine rebounds. She also tallied two assists and two steals.

Senior guard Ally Gietzel hit her only 3-pointer of the game to give CSP a four-point lead. 

Ally Gietzel scored 16 points with eight coming in overtime. Despite going 3-15 from the field, she was able to get a majority of her work done from the free throw line finishing 9-11. She also grabbed five rebounds and led the team in steals with three.

The Concordia-St. Paul women’s basketball team (20-7, 16-6 NSIC) held St. Cloud State (17-9, 14-8 NSIC) scoreless for the last 6:21 and went on a 9-0 run in that timespan to win, 57-51. The game featured many runs and CSP went on the last run of it to seal the Senior Day victory.

The Golden Bears are the No. 3 seed in the NSIC Tournament after being tied with No. 2 UMary and No. 4 Northern State with 16-6 conference records.

The Golden Bears will play the winner between No. 6 Minnesota Duluth and No. 11 Sioux Falls on Wednesday, Feb. 28. Concordia-St. Paul’s quarterfinal game is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Sunday, March 3 in the Sanford Pentagon in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

Golden Bear women’s basketball falls to Minnesota Duluth in NSIC quarterfinals

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The Concordia-St. Paul women’s basketball team (20-7, 16-6 NSIC) lost to Minnesota Duluth (19-9, 14-8 NSIC) in the NSIC Tournament quarterfinals on Sunday night in the Sanford Pentagon. The Golden Bears were outscored 41-24 in the second half with Minnesota Duluth shooting 16 free throws compared to three for CSP. 

Senior guard Ally Gietzel scored 10 points grabbing six rebounds. She had a team-high four assists.
