Coach Kevin Deering’s thoughts
“In previous years, Nicole had been an 800 (meter) runner, but she brings some speed and some jumping ability from what we’ve found out and we trained her as a 400 runner and a jumper. Not only a senior, but just the work ethic she has shown and the leadership traits — not always the most vocal, but through her work ethic she leads as an example. She does everything you ask of her, fights through the pain. We’ve had some really brutal workouts this year, but every day I can rely on her to be there and I can rely on her to show up at meets. She’s just one of those people that you know you don’t have to worry about because she’s there. We’re getting younger kids now and they see that this is what it’s going to take and so that’s a good example for the future years.”
Nicole’s thoughts
“This year (track) has been really challenging. We’ve had a lot of hard workouts and I think I’ve become way faster and stronger this year because of it. We have really good coaches.”
