Nicole’s week

The sophomore sprinter/jumper competed in the Wisconsin State Indoor Track and Field Championships at UW-Whitewater on Saturday, finishing 25th in the 55-meter dash and was part of the 4X400-meter relay that took 14th. Earlier this spring, Lord finished second in both the long jump and 55-meter dash at the Pam Kjono Invitational hosted by Manitowoc Lincoln on March 25 and was fourth in the long jump at the UW-Oshkosh Large School Invitational on March 28. Last season as a freshman, Lord qualified for the WIAA state track and field meet in the long jump.

Coach Jena Weigel’s thoughts

“We have a really talented underclass, which is nice, but she is going to be one of those girls who we’ll rely on to do multiple events. She’s just such an athlete. She did cross country and basketball and now she’s doing track. She’s going to be one of our top sprinters and one of our top long jumpers. She’s a hard worker.”

“I’m very dedicated. I’ll make sure I get the work in both offseason and in-season. … I’ve been running for a really long time and like I said, I put in work in the offseason. I don’t slack off.”

What do you want to do for a living? “Right now I want to be a sports psychologist.”

Why are sports important to you? “I’ve been doing them for so long. I’m focused on them. I have school, but then I can go out do something that I enjoy to do and compete in it.”

What’s your strength as a person? “I’ll get things done. I won’t back off if it’s too hard. Perseverance.”

What do you still need to work on? “Working through mental barriers. I’ll get through it, but it will take me a while to tell myself that I can.”

Do you have any pre-game rituals? “Lots of stretching and I talk to people when I’m nervous.”
