Preseason Outlook

Although the Cardinals lose a couple crucial players from last year’s squad, they return enough where coach Brandon Peterson believes they should compete to finish in the top third of the Fox Valley Association.

One of the key spots Fond du Lac will need to fill is in goal. Last year, Mollie Tennessen was named first team All-FVA after recording a school-record 178 saves with a 2.00 goals-against average.

Forward Becky McArdle, who scored 13 goals and had eight assists, is also gone.

That in mind, first team All-FVA midfielder Zoe Pantel (6 goals, 14 assists) returns for her senior season as do All-FVA honorable mentions Hailey Ahrens (15 goals, 7 assists) and Kassidy Kobilic (defense).

Peterson mentioned a number of other players he believes will have an impact this season, including France Clement, Phoebe Leu, Caitlin Pelot, Brianna Colton, Brooke Hubbard, Emily Wood, Olivia Mockert, Cassie Schmidt, Margaret Krolczyk, Morgan Ruelle, Esther Schorse, Courtney Legge, Shea-Lynn Gerred, Madison Owens, Kat Newman, and Kirsten Colton.

“The conference will continue to be a challenge as each team continues to push one another on any given night,” Peterson said. “We have a good mix of youth and experience this season with players looking to cement their place and a good number of young players hungry to make their stamp on the program. We will have a challenging nonconference schedule with many top teams in the state but girls have been pushing hard to prepare themselves in these games and build team cohesion and chemistry.”
