FOND DU LAC – Last year, the Fond du Lac boys track and field team qualified 15 athletes for the WIAA state meet en route to a Division 1 sectional championship.

Eleven of those athletes are back this spring.

State qualifiers Alex Balthazor (200-meter dash), Kyle Marcoe (400, 4X400-meter relay), Trey Halfmann (400, 4X400, triple jump), Noah Tagliapietra (1,600, 3,200), Levi Burns (4X100, 4X200), Joe Kuber (4X100, 4X200, 4X400), Luke Curran (4X200, 4X400), Zach Schmit (4X400), Andrew Stone (shot put, discus), Donte Johnson (shot put) and Devon Krzanowski (discus) all return for the Cardinals.

The four state qualifiers who graduated were Nick Park (100, 4X100, 4X200), Quinn Woelfel (4X100, 4X200), Matt Laska (110-meter hurdles, 300 hurdles) and Zach Emmer (pole vault).

In addition, the Cardinals bring back a number of sectional qualifiers who came up just short of state last year, including Eddie Negron (long jump, triple jump), Nate Diederich (pole vault), Jimmie Diener (high jump, 300 hurdles), David Stucke (shot put, discus), Kiernan Koepke (1,600, 3,200) and the 4X800-meter relay team of Ian Spletter, Ben Schmitz, Conor Mitchell and Schmit.

Fond du Lac coach Kevin Braun also mentioned a couple newcomers including Adam Cudworth (100, 4X100), Adam Hopper (110, 300 hurdles) and Hunter Kollmann (800).

“We have high expectations for this year’s team and are looking forward to the challenge,” Braun said.
